Learn About Our Island’s People and Culture
While much of Roatan is seemingly “undiscovered,”its diverse history dates back to the Maya people, Spanish conquistadors, African slaves, and British pirates. Many characteristics of the island today serve as reminders of its rich history.
Located near the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the largest barrier reef in the Caribbean Sea (the second largest worldwide), Roatan is an important cruise ship, scuba diving and eco-tourism destination in Honduras.
Roatan’s cuisine is however as diverse as the people that live here. Visitors can experience some of the best French, Thai, Creole, Indian and Italian tastes at one of the many island restaurants.
